Humminbird HELIX 7 G3/G3N Reviews
Introduction:
Despite your desire, your money has prevented you from purchasing a fish finder with MEGA imaging. With the introduction of the Helix 7 G3N series, you can now enjoy MEGA Imaging’s incredibly sharp quality on a 7-inch device that is reasonably priced. The good news for anglers is this!
The G3N units share a lot of similarities with the Humminbird Helix 7 series in terms of appearance, but they also boast some brand-new features and improvements. Learn more about the capabilities of these tiny fish finders by reading on.
Helix 7 Series:
Table could not be displayed.Important capabilities, features, and capabilities
MEGA Side Imaging (New) – The Helix 7 now houses MEGA Side Imaging’s power and imaging detail. MEGA should provide coverage on all sides of the boat of at least 100 feet. Since the transducer is far smaller than the MEGA+, they must have discovered a means to achieve MEGA-like performance in a more compact and affordable packaging. This is a rather significant sale and suggests that the MEGA SI model will sell well.
MEGA Down Imaging (New) – The G3/G3N series now offers a MEGA DI device. Clearer views of structure and improved fish separation are provided by the dedicated MEGA DI transducer. It looks exactly like the MEGA DI transducer from the previous year, which is advantageous.
Dual Spectrum CHIRP Sonar (New) – First made available in the bigger Helix G2N units last year, the Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar is now being integrated into every single new Humminbird Helix unit, including the Helix 7. These components are “low q,” which is a fancy way of expressing that they have a broad resonance frequency spectrum and are “genuine CHIRP.” Simply put, this results in far improved fish arches, target separation, and a more enjoyable 2D sonar experience.
Ethernet Networking – Even if 80/200 kHz may no longer exist, SwitchFire sonar does. To increase sonar returns when the sea conditions demand it, these parameters regulate how your sonar appears on the screen.
Bluetooth – Your smartphone has built-in Bluetooth that enables pairing. Get pop-up text message notifications, use the RC2 remote to operate the device, or use the FishSmart app to wirelessly update your device.
Sharing Sonar- and waypoints through Ethernet networking is a wonderful thing. The back of every model with the prefix “G3N” has an Ethernet port. For each device you wish to network, dongle cables AS EC QDE are required. If you need to network more than two units, a 5-port Ethernet switch AS ETH 5PXG is required.
Compatible with 360 imaging – As an ethernet add-on, the G3N units can display 360 imaging data. Many pro fishermen have a secret weapon called the 360.
AutoChart Live – You can self-map unexplored waters using AutoChart Live. The depth lines are displayed on your screen as you maneuver your boat, highlighting significant depth changes, structures, areas of the hard or soft bottom, and vegetation overlays that might be promising fishing locations. 8 hours’ worth of recordings can be stored on the device, and much more can be stored when using an AutoChart Zero Lines card or AutoChart LiveShare.
Compatible with LakeMaster/LakeMaster PLUS – These are the typical mapping cards for all Humminbird products. The area surrounding the bodies of water is simply shown on PLUS cards using satellite imagery and aerial photographs.
SmartStrike – With SmartStrike mapping cards, all HELIX 7 G3 and G3N versions are compatible. Except for the added SmartStrike data, these cards are identical to the ordinary regional LakeMaster mapping cards. Based on the information you provide in the menus, the card and the unit can show regions on your map where you might be able to go fishing.
Accessories & Transducers
- XNT 9 HW MSI 150 T – This transducer is referred to as a “Compact MEGA” transducer. A CHIRP sonar range of 150-220 kHz, 180-240 kHz, and 140-200 kHz, as well as imaging frequencies of 455 kHz (440-500 kHz) and MEGA DI (1075-1150 kHz) and MEGA SI (1075-1150 kHz) are all included (Wide).
- XNT 9 HW MDI 75 T – This transducer has the same appearance as the previous DI transducers, but it has new MEGA and HW sonar crystals. Imaging frequencies for the SI model are 440–500 kHz, 1075–1150 kHz (MEGA DI), and CHIRP sonar.
- The XTM 9 HW MSI 150 T – The only difference between the XTM 9 HW MSI 150 T and the XNT 9 HW MSI 150 T is that the XTM has a special shape that allows it to be attached to trolling motors.
- XTM 9 HW MDI 75 T – This is a trolling motor mountable version of the XNT 9 HW MDI 75 T.
- XNT 9 HW T – This is a typical transom-mounted 2D sonar transducer.
- XP 9 HW – Choose this transducer if you want to install it within the hull to get 2D readings at higher speeds. The Y cable is required to separate the imaging and 2D signals.
Can You Afford a Helix 7 G3N?
HELIX 7 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G3N MEGA Imaging – The G3N is not a very alluring alternative if you were looking at the incredible photographs being produced on the larger MEGA models but couldn’t afford the expense. No other brands can offer MHz imaging at such a low cost.
Humminbird and Garmin now use Low Q transducers that are “genuine CHIRP,” whereas Lowrance continues to “fake CHIRP” their 2D sonar. The HELIX 7’s Dual Spectrum Sonar appears to be a vast improvement over the old-school 83/200 kHz sonar images.
Using and Avoiding Networks – Paying for features you won’t utilize is not wise. Helix 7 G3 eliminates the ethernet, saving you some money.
Awesome Kayak Fish Finder – The HELIX 7 G3, which features GPS mapping, authentic CHIRP sonar, and, most recently, MEGA Imaging, is a genuinely outstanding alternative for kayak fishers. Although 7-inch screens might seem a bit large for a fishing kayak, upgrading to a bigger screen is rarely regretted.
Only 1 MicroSD Slot – If you frequently utilize maps and screenshots, you’ll need to switch cards. This is how the majority of smaller fish finders are constructed, thus it’s more of a warning than a flaw.
Conclusion:
At a very reasonable price, the Helix 7 G3N offers MEGA Imaging and a low Q CHIRP 2D, both of which are considerable upgrades. If money has always been a barrier, this is your chance to add MEGA to your boat!
